The True Wardrobe Essential

Why high waisted jeans are the best thing to happen in the fashion world.

I am the proud owner of having hips and thighs.

There is no great thigh gap and I’ve got to tell you, despite the different looking skinny bodies adorning grocery store checkout magazines, I still like mine

There has been a focus on having a skinny lower half for the past 20 years, as though we’ve been trying to convince ourselves that we’re all petite fashionistas who can jump into our jeans every morning and have stomachs that muffin over top.

Lucky for us, there has been a resurgence of the ‘mom jeans’ era which accentuates female curves and lengthens legs. I’m not referring to the high waisted shorts hipsters wear at music festivals that show off one’s legs. I’m talking about the full-length jeans Marilyn Monroe displayed once upon a time ago. She starred in the 1961 film, The Misfits, where she proudly displays high waisted jeans with a tucked-in shirt and belt, which at that time was a look not viewed at all stylish and left in the past. The style had originally been popular in the 1940s by Levi’s, for women working in factories during the WW2 war effort; this allowed them to keep their modesty while bending over for work. By the 1970s, jeans had once again become a necessity in every wardrobe, as bell bottoms rose in popularity among both men and women.

While high-waisted jeans are more popular than ever, they’ve been accused as a spandex tummy hiding device, most likely because it is a style known for making most body types flattering.

Wearing high waisted jeans gives me permission to eat a well earned chocolate-chip cookie, while still feeling sexy.

But we, the proud owners of hips and thighs, don’t have to be confused by the criticism. So what if this is the reason high waisted jeans are your new best friend? The biggest critic you need to face when picking our your own personal fashion is yourself. There’s no fashion police that are going to write you a ticket for staying true to yourself (unless going in the nude is your fashion sense because that is illegal in most public places). Wearing high waisted jeans gives me permission to eat a well earned chocolate-chip cookie, while still feeling sexy. So no, I will not purchase a new wardrobe today to make my critics satisfied, but I will grab another cookie.

Highwaisted jeans are the best thing to happen in the fashion world, they continuously stay relevant (we all love a little vintage), and they infest confidence in the wearer.
