We have successfully survived the first few snowfalls of winter so, it’s safe to say the cold weather is officially here to stay. It’s time for us all to dig out our parkas, our thickest scarves and wooliest hats. However, this year we’re taking a hint from fashion girls who are accessorizing their warm winter get up with metallic pieces. Winter fashion this season has taken a turn for the futuristic with outfits incorporating silver jackets, metallic pants and glittery boots. This metallic trend has been significant throughout the fall of 2017 and we see it maintaining its grip this winter. Big industry players such as Chanel, Dior and Saint Laurent heavily featured metallic pieces in their Fall/Winter 2017 collections earlier this year. Maria Grazia Chiuri creations contained different hues of blue; metallic embroidered suits and dresses were also spotted. Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent collection featured edgy metallic dresses and skirts in vibrant blues and silvers. While Karl Lagerfeld took intergalactic metallics in Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection to new heights with a rocket ship as the backdrop for models donning shimmery headbands, pants, shawls and boots. Here’s our take on four ways to tackle metallic dressing for your next holiday party.
Layer the Sparkle
This year we will not fall into the rut of winter, but instead, don a pair of sparkling block heels, silver leggings or a metallic frosted coat, and shimmer our way through to spring! We will bring the glam to our holiday festivities in the form of sequin-covered suits and tassel wrapped shirts that give the tinsel on our trees a run for their money. But who says gold and silver have to get all the fun? We’ve also got our sights on rich coppers and and shimmering bronze, best matched with colourful furs for some warmth on those cold nights out. Not to mention some sparkly, studded and pearly accessories to complete our looks.
Metallics Don’t Have to be Silver
Now that winter 2017 is no longer a hypothetical, we see the metallic trend has filtered down to street style as stars and bloggers are incorporating these pieces into their everyday wear. The metallic trend is embodied in the glitter boots that stole the show at Chanel and Paris Fashion Week this year, that are now being sold by the likes of Aldo and Steve Madden. Celebrities, models and street style stars have all been seen wearing these iconic boots, showing off their Kira Kira fodder on a day to day basis.
All in the Details
The glitter boot trend has taken the fashion world, and social media, by storm. Many established magazines and fashion websites, such as Man Repeller, have done numerous features on these fantastic boots and how to rock the trend by pairing the accessory with more futuristic inspired pieces. Retailers like Topshop and H&M have jumped on the band wagon (*shocker) with metallic pieces like shiny parka jackets and holographic boots, an accessory that has coincidentally made its rounds on Instagram and Pinterest.
