It’s that time of year again… We’re a few weeks into 2017, which means your New Year’s resolution is probably already going downhill (if it isn’t, I’m jealous!). The famous saying “New Year, New me” is great and all, but sometimes all you need are a few simple goals for the year that you will be able to carry through. Here are my top three resolutions that will make you feel great for actually sticking to them.
- Eat Healthier
Although many of us choose to exercise more as a New Year resolution, motivation quickly runs low and our schedules start to fill. An easy, and more realistic goal for the year is to clean up your diet. Only a little bit of attention and self-discipline is required when buying groceries. However, this resolution is one that does not take any additional time out of your day, because eating and cooking is something that is included in your daily life. Stay away from the frozen aisle and opt for the fresh produce section instead. You will be surprised how healthy and confident you feel only a few weeks after this new and improved diet.
- Save money
Our wallets are definitely feeling the backlash of this holiday season… As 2017 commences, it’s wise to refrain from spending money to allow your bank account to recover. An easy way to save, as stated above, is to cook at home. Although groceries may be slightly more expensive in the moment, you will save so much money on take-out and fast food lunches. Even making your morning coffee to go will save you $4 instead of stopping a that cute little coffee shop on your way to school. Another way to save money is to avoid shopping! We all know that malls are a black hole for our wallets. If you are in desperate need of a new sweater, opt for a second hand store. This way you can be eco-friendly all while saving big bucks- double whammy!
- Document more
Here’s one resolution I will definitely be pursuing myself. I love looking back at memories but unfortunately, I realized that I did not do a good job of documenting my 2016 year. This goal is so simple because living in the 21st century, we all carry phones on us 24/7. It takes a fraction of a second to whip it out and snap a quick pic of your friends laughing or the way the sun looked a certain morning. Although one picture may not seem like a lot, one day your iPhone camera roll could become a photo album you show to you grandkids. If you like writing, journaling is another great option. Purchase yourself a small notebook that fits in your purse or pocket, and take up out to jot down the highlights of your day. It’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face anytime you flip back on it.
